How to Choose Your Wedding Venue

Updated: Mar 11, 2020

Follow these steps to find the perfect back drop for your ceremony, reception, or other wedding events!

Choosing your venue is basically making the decision for what your picture backdrop will be. It will be the place that holds the magic and lives on in your pictures. Here are a few things to consider when choosing your venue.

1: Pick Your Budget and Start Researching

There are a lot options for venues that all offer different kinds of benefits. Some will provide linens and decorations, some have catering options. Find the look you want and some of the options they offer that fit inside your budget.

Some websites help start your research process like, The Wedding Wire.

2: Pick a Few Choices that Would Fit your Style

It is easy to get your heart set on something and then find out that it won't work. If you can give yourself a few options, it leaves a little wiggle room before stress sets in. This leaves more room for change before it feels like your plans are falling apart. Wedding planning shouldn't feel like an unconquerable process.

3: Decide How Many People Will Be Attending Your Events

Whether it is for your ceremony or reception, venues only have room for so many people. If you can have an estimated headcount and budget in place before contacting your venue, it can make the booking process quite a bit easier. Make sure you include your photographer/videographer, any officiants, and all guests.

This page will help you keep track of who will be attending your ceremonies and events.

4: Have your Date Solidified and Call for Availability

After you have a budget solidified, a good idea of how many will be attending, and have your date the next step is to book! Find out if the space that fits your party is available, what the down payment expected is, what the payment plan is, an any expectations for your part of the deal. If you know that you are indecisive, maybe try to find a place that has refunds up to certain point.

5: Book Your Event, Keep any Contracts and Receipts, and Stay in Contact

Pick the place that fits all the other criteria previously talked about, then book! Keep the contracts to make sure that there are no future bumps in the road and both parties can be protected. Receipts from caterers or for decorations can also be helpful to hold on to. As the time comes closer to the wedding day, stay in contact with your venue to ensure good communication and no mistakes.
